Domesticity Studio Fribourg
Domesticity studios are project research laboratories. They explore the architectural design project as a process. The project is seen as a practice driven by an ethically rooted personal attitude, continuously alternating between production and reflection, between intuition and rationality.
They depart from the observation that architectural quality can be immediately detected, but that it needs a process to be obtained;
The research focuses on architecture’s core subject of dwelling, extending this notion to its largest meaning: dwelling as housing / inhabiting, the apparent purpose of the architectural object on the one hand; dwelling as leading into error / spending time upon / lingering over / treating at length with insistence, the irreducible character of the architectural project on the other hand.
Domesticity studios connect to the domesticity seminars through their thematic content: they critically explore context as nature / birth, usage as gender / intimacy, materiality as body / soul;
Domesticity studios connect to the urban seminars by introducing subjects that question the urban as a generic public primacy, exploring village architecture as an urban inspiration;
Domesticity studios connect to the pro-for seminars inasmuch as they dwell upon creative methods considered to be the architect’s core activity.
