SEMINAIRE S3 JMA-GE

Portrait de l’espace urbain contemporain [EN]

CONTENT

The seminar is an observatory of contemporary urban development.
By analysing concrete examples and cases identified, developed and illustrated by the students, it aims to understand the processes underway, with a particular focus on the urban fringe, where the city of tomorrow is being built. It addresses issues of architecture and urban planning, as well as notions of landscape, identity, atmosphere and use. Through these different approaches, and with an emphasis on drawing, the students draw up a critical portrait of our urban environment and the spaces in which we live, on an intermediate scale where architecture and urban design are inseparable.

TEACHING AIMS

  • Broaden and deepen theoretical knowledge of architecture and urban planning on an intermediate scale.
  • Build up a body of theoretical and practical urban references. Reinforce conceptual and methodological skills and critical thinking. Discovering the links between typology and morphology, between urban space and architecture, understanding the role of public and private spaces in the making of the city, as landscape and social space.

TEACHING FORMS

Lectures and seminars. Observation in situ, collectively and individually, followed by discussion and debate. Individual and group work. Lectures and presentations are given by teachers and invited guests. Students contribute to the compilation of an analysis of urban space in Geneva through a representation in the form of thematic representations.
